We are not talking about “inventing” new and revolutionary techniques, but simple, practical applications for things such as the use of manure from our cattle farms, where a rural restaurant should get fresh ingredients, and what happens to the harvested fruit. Everything that is easily accessible or producable must be produced and sold here in the vicinity. What we can add to this age-old model is increased environmental awareness and the use of technological advances.
In Rétimajor the favorable natural conditions and the management’s innovative planning has lead to the so-called multifunctional fisheries management. Aranyponty, utilizing 20 years of experience, has created a center where protecting while utilizing the environment works perfectly.
Priority number one: Fisheries
Large scale fish production
Our primary and main source of income is large scale fish production. Of the 1200 hectares of fish farming areas 1000 hectares is our own property, and another 200 is rented. Annual production exceeds 1500 tonnes. The success of the company is due to favorable natural and physical resources and extraordinary personal contributions.
Fish breeding and hatcheries
The vast majority of fish of all sizes and ages is sold in the form of live fish. In the hatcheries we grow large quantities for personal use and for sale as well.
Technological advancement, research, innovation
The essence of the newly introduced production structure in the field of fisheries: the propagation of carp population with the highest biological value, breeding of predator fish and research activities. We strive to coordinate traditional crafts with modern technologies, favoring the environment-friendly solutions (i. e. thermal water pipelines, recycling, biofish production). In cooperation with Hungarian universities that train and educate fishing experts, we are currently working on establishing and educational and research center in Rétimajor.
Encouraging fish consumption
Aranyponty Fisheries Co. has been committed to all marketing activities that can promote popularization and increase in local fresh water fish consumption. We have numerous websites and are present on social media, such as Facebook. We take part in the organization of OMÉK (National Food Exhibition) and Animal Breeding Days by presenting products of fisheries. In fairs and city events we showcase out giant aquarium to teach about Hungarian fish species. During events we hold food tastings and show insight into the ancient fishing industry; it's important for us to show where fish on the plate comes from, and how it gets there.
Livestock, crops and food production
We don't just produce fish, we use some of the surrounding land as well. Plants from our gardens are used as decoration, and vegetables and farm animals provide fresh ingredients for our restaurant. We also have a chocolate factory, where we use the fruits from our orchards as filling for our premium quality bonbons.
Our Cece site is home to over 200 cattle and buffalo. These animals are the voluntary caretakers of lands around Aranyponty; vegetation is kept in check and their manure is used in the gardens and orchards. The meals of their high quality is on the menu in our restaurant.
The horticulture center is also in Cece where more and more areas are involved since 2010. The original purpose of these gardens were to produce the flowers we use to decorate around the lakes. In recent years the vegetable production has increased as well, giving fresh ingredients to the restaurant.
Vineyards and winery
On Simontornya, we grow our own grapes, mature them in oak barrels in our cellars, then bottle them for our guests to enjoy. The high quality bio-wine is branded by Aranyponty and is called Halászmester (meaning Fishing Master), and is a great favorite.
Our hand-crafted chocolates made from Belgian ingredients, without added sugar or preservatives. The fillings are our own creations sweetened with honey, with a little alcohol. Most of the fruits used for the fillings (raspberry, plum, peach, cherry, walnut and peanut) are from our own farms. The chocolate products are all gluten free, without added artificial flavors or dyes.
Our buffalo salami is made by Dezső Szomor that we package and offer to our customers. Our high quality red paprika (spice) is available for purchase in 1kg bags.
The family-owned company’s center is in Rétimajor, inside the Rétszilasi Fishing Lakes Protected Area. It’s approximately 1000 hectares (2400acres), with over 750 hectares of water surface. The lake system is a Protected Natural Areas since 1996, and from 1997 it is in the RAMSAR Convention as well for internationally recognized and deemed important wetland habitat. We have over 17000 guests and customers annually in Rétimajor.
Guests may choose from multiple options. The Rétimajor B&B awaits with en-suite rooms for two. Lollipop Island Youth Center was built with en-suite rooms for 2-4, modern style accommodation for 30 people. Our guesthouses and apartments in Örspuszta are very close to the lakes. Our best and most prestigious guesthouse is Lakeside, right by the wellness center in Réimajor. We can house up to 100 people comfortably.
Around Örspuszta guests may fish at numerous lakes and a canal, which has made it a popular destination amongst fishermen. The size and quality of the fish caught have been a reason for praise for years and years, resulting in satisfied customers. Each lake offers a different experience, thus people can enjoy a diverse fishing experience.
Ancient tools, nets, rods and other old artifacts are shown in a thematically organized way. Old equipment was collected from fishing yurts, from dusty attics and old-forgotten fishing spots to showcase their story to modern society. It brings back an era long gone, making a visit here a truly unique experience.
Child and youth center was built on Lollipop Island, and it’s a popular destination for class excursions and kid’s camps. The center is perfect for themed camps; the island is a cozy spot, with large parks and comfortable communal areas.
Events and programs
Rétimajor is a popular location for weddings, anniversaries, and family gatherings. We can organize events for 100-150 people, and we can hold festivals for up to 1000-1500 people as well. Our B&B ecotourism center has a conference room for meeting for up to 40-50 people, and the lake system is a natural choice for fishing competitions too.
Aranyponty Restaurant’s number one priority is the traditional Hungarian dishes, especially those made of fish. As a fishing center it’s clearly important to serve high quality, fresh and tasty fish to our guests, but we also thought about those who enjoy other types of food as well. Our very own cattle and buffalo herds provide great ingredients. We also serve home-made fruit juices and lemonades made from pickings in our orchards. Anyone who has eaten here has become a fan and returning customer.
